Making the Most of Your Flex Room

Finding your dream home takes a lot of time looking at the best floor plans and layouts that fit your family’s wants and needs. You want to have ample space to accommodate growth and life changes that happen over time. Now let us introduce to you what we call the “Flex Room” and what to do with it.

Flex rooms are created and built into many of our homes for the idea that each and every family is unique. With this extra space, your family can turn the room into whatever makes the most sense — and that can be done in so many ways for different homeowners. Here are some ideas and inspiration we think will make the most out of your flex room.

Game Room

Make your flex room a game room that encourages fun for everyone in the family — not just the kids! This could be the perfect space to house a billiards room if you own any game tables like pool, ping-pong, shuffleboard, poker or air-hockey! Or, your game room can function as an additional area for the family to hangout and watch tv.

Kids Room

Don’t want to see obnoxious amounts of toys scattered around your house? Gift the kids a space of their own for mixed-use fun. The flex room could simply be an organized play place for all their games and toys, or add some desks and school supplies for a productive area for your children to study and work on homework!

Home Office

One of the most popular uses of a flex space is a home office where comfort meets productivity. Complete with French doors, this room offers a quiet place to work with privacy from the rest of the house. These days, many professionals are either working completely remote or on hybrid schedules, so a study room is the perfect addition to the home.

Formal Dining

Turn your flex room into a beautiful formal dining room designed to serve and seat your loved ones. In addition to your open concept home with dining areas often flowing into the kitchen, it’s nice to have a separate room for meals. Formal dining rooms are ideal for the holidays or other special events where you might be hosting family and friends to dine and gather!

Bonus Room

Fill your flex room with cozy furniture and use the extra space however you please! Maybe someone is a literature lover and has this space as a reading room stocked with their book collection. Or maybe it’s another spot for the family to curl up and watch movies. Add tables and shelves and artsy folks can turn it into a craft room; add some equipment and weights and exercisers can create a makeshift workout area!

Additional Bedroom

Sometimes family’s just need the flex space as an additional bedroom. Whether it’s utilized for an immediate family member, or reserved and styled as a guest room, it’s incredibly convenient to have the option to turn your flex into a bedroom. To maximize the space for the best of both worlds, you could put a day bed or sleeper sofa in the space for dual functionality: flex space by day, extra place to sleep by night.
